G4S is one of a number of foreign security contractors operating in Afghanistan and provides guards for the area around the British embassy.
A statement from the governor's office in Helmand confirmed that 16 Taliban insurgents were killed and said that an investigation was under way to determine the number of civilian casualties. Today, the Taliban claimed it killed 16 Afghan security personnel in Shilgar district and two more in Qarabagh.
At least 10 people and wounding 19 others when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives and fighters engaged security forces in a gun battle in a the co-ordinated attack in the eastern part of the capital Kabul.
Basir Mujahid says the six were transferred to a hospital for treatment.
The violence comes as the Taliban intensifies pressure on Afghan security forces, even as the global community ramps up efforts towards talks.

"There are no indications he was shot intentionally", the statement added, naming the soldier as Sgt Jasso without giving a first name.
No other details have been released.
A vehicle bomb exploded near to a security contractors' compound in the Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday, sending a thick plume of smoke into the night sky and officials reported gunfire in the wake of the blast. The casualties included residents who live near the compound, the ministry said.
However Wednesday's assault also follows a wave of bloody violence across the war-torn country in recent weeks that has killed hundreds of people as militants step up their attacks.
