Apex Legends launched worldwide on February 5, 2019 but has already taken millions of players across the world - 25 million to be exact - by storm. "As I said earlier, we are looking at how to take the game to mobile and cross-play over time, and I also expect that this game will have tremendous value in Asia, and we're in conversations about that", Wilson said.
Developer Respawn kept the development of Apex Legends under wraps, unveiling the finished game with very little fanfare and allowing the game to become a word of mouth phenomenon nearly overnight. Shortly after the announcement Monday, gamers were playing Apex Legends on the popular streaming game service Twitch at almost three times the number they were Fortnite, and even more than other popular streaming games like League of Legends. Despite the sheer number of battle royale titles that have launched over the previous year, none of them could really hold a candle to Fortnite, at least not as far as Twitch viewership was concerned.More news: U.S. commander says N.Korea unlikely to give up all nuclear weapons

Like Fortnite and Overwatch, the free game features loot boxes that players can purchase to acquire items of varying value in the game. There's nothing truly groundbreaking here, but it's the vast amount of little things that Apex does extremely well that makes it stand out from the rest. It's a first-person shooter that's set in the Titanfall universe, which means fans of that franchise will be very familiar with how the game works.
"Apex Legends", though, still has a long way to go before it's even in the same zip code as "Fortnite", which was released in 2017. Let us know if you enjoyed what you saw today!
And Apex Legends appears to be growing fast. That will depend on how EA moves it forward, and whether it floods the game with in-app purchases like it has with other titles.
