Today's moon will appear slightly bigger as it is February's full moon, known as a Super Snow Moon and will be the brightest of 2019. Perigree is the point in the orbit of the satellite at which it is nearest to the Earth.
It was not only sky watchers, particularly selenophiles, that were attracted to the Snow Moon.
Supermoons occur when the moon's orbit is closest to Earth at the same time that it is full.
"Some believe that a full moon is responsible for their shorter or more disturbed sleep, as well as events such as sleepwalking", Massey University sleep researcher Dr Karyn O'Keeffe said. Although it will be its closest on February 19, 2019 morning, it will be visible to us Earth dwellers at 9.23 pm.
"In ancient times, people across Europe and Native Americans used the moon to track the seasons", according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
This type of moon can also be called a "hunger moon" as it traditionally comes at the end of winter when hunting was harder, making food scarce. February's full moon is going to be the biggest Super Moon of the year. Coastal areas can expect stronger tides over the next few days because of the proximity of the moon.More news: Hamidou Diallo Jumps over Shaq to Win Slam Dunk Contest

Previous year in February, there wasn't any full moon terming it as black moon. It's a combination of two things - a snow moon and a supermoon.
Dr Tucker says the supermoon has always been around, but it only really became a "thing" in the past five to 10 years. It will appear 14% larger in diameter and 30% brighter than the year's smallest full moon in September.
During the supermoon, the effects of the moon's gravitational pull on the Earth's oceans will be more pronounced, generating higher than normal high tides, known as "Spring Tides".
The third and farthest supermoon for 2019, the Worm Moon, will occur on March 21.
Full moon nights are special. So when darkness falls and the moon rises Tuesday, it will be a little bit on the wane.
