The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer reportedly owes $161,000 in back child support, according to state offices, CNN reported.
Kelly was detained by the Cook County sheriff in IL and will be transported to the county jail on Wednesday evening, sheriff's department spokesperson Sophia Ansari told NPR. The singer spent three nights in jail before a suburban woman - a fan who met him on a Lake Michigan cruise in the fall - put up the $100,000.
"He didn't come here to go to jail", said his publicist, Darryll Johnson, who said Kelly was prepared to pay $50,000 to $60,000. "As you know, he hasn't worked in a long time", Johnson told the Tribune.

Her parents stated that the singer pulled the then-17-year-old on stage back in 2015.
The call took place after her parents, Timothy and Jonjelyn Savage, held a news conference in Georgia during which they said they hadn't spoken to their daughter in two years and alleged that Kelly was holding her against her will. Kelly has consistently denied any sexual misconduct and was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008. "Forget the blogs, forget how you feel about me", Kelly said.
"This is your own daughter talking", she said.
When asked how Kelly can still live in the Trump Tower, he replied that Kelly "has some money". "I gave you 30 years of my f-cking career", R. Kelly said during the interview. Last month he was arrested and charged with a list of sex charges, including the abuse of underage girls. In fact, they think the call might have been brought on by R. In a follow-up tweet, Avenatti addressed the emotion that Kelly shows in the interview: "R. Kelly's tears are out of fear and despair".
