It is the first time a Derby victor has been disqualified because of a foul on the track.
The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission didn't take long to deny the appeal of Maximum Security's disqualification as Kentucky Derby victor for interference, saying hours after it was filed Monday that the stewards' decision is not subject to appeal. Usually when something like this happens a hors misses a couple weeks of training.
Country House was a 65-1 long-shot at the 1-1/4 mile Kentucky Derby where he finished second on a muddy track before objections were raised, causing a delay that ultimately led to a stunning reversal.
Trainer Bill Mott said Tuesday the long-shot victor of horse racing's biggest event was no longer being considered to run in the second leg of the Triple Crown after it looked as if Country House was getting sick.
"He's acting like he's going to get sick", Mott tells DRF. He's off the training list, and if he's off the training list he's off the Preakness list.More news: Liverpool's Mohamed Salah to miss Barcelona semi-final

There will be no Triple Crown victor this year.
"I mean we're really glad to be in this position of having the victor but on the other hand we've probably had to apologize a little bit for the way we did it, "Bill Mott said".
The 2019 Preakness Stakes is set for Saturday, May 18 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.
Court pointed out that the infraction was between two of the race's youngest riders, Luis Saez (27) and Tyler Gaffalione (24), and he believes that other riders took unnecessary chances during the running of the 145th Kentucky Derby. American Pharaoh won the Triple Crown back in 2015, becoming the first horse to do so since Affirmed in 1978.
Gary West, who co-owns Maximum Security with his wife, Mary, told the Associated Press he was not surprised the KHRC denied the appeal the same day it was filed. Country House #20 was declared the victor after a stewards review disqualified Maximum Security #7. It was the first time the horse who crossed the finish line first was not declared the victor.
"As of noon time today, he has developed a fever and his blood work indicates a possible infection or viral infection", Mott said. The third leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes, will be June 8 at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.
