In true Trump fashion, the President tweeted of Sanders' departure at the end of the month, saying that he hopes "she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas", adding that "she would be fantastic".
Could it be that Trump is trying to save face in case there's limited interest in the job, or does 45 actually have an extended list of people itching to take on the media from the press secretary podium?
Her father is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
The White House declined to comment. "He has accomplished so much in these two and a half years, and it's truly been something I will treasure forever", she said. "I tell you this it's the greatest job in the world".
In an interview, Arkansas Democratic Party Chairman Michael John Gray said Sanders would likely be a top-tier candidate for her party's nomination if she runs.
After news of Sanders' departure surfaced, speculation rose as to who could replace her.
Sanders' last briefing was 94 days ago but Trump answers questions from reporters on a near-daily basis, including two extended sessions with them on Wednesday.
