Your Summer Reading List: The Amy Binegar-Kimmes-Lyle Book of Failures

During my school years I used to have a “summer reading list” to not only pass the days of June, July and August, but also to keep my reading skills current and fresh; and if I learned something or enjoyed what the author put down in black and white, it was a bonus.

As adults, we may not have an official “summer reading list,” but it can be a time of the year where out busy schedules allow us to sit back on a hammock with a good book and a glass of sweet tea.

A suggestion for the top of your 2017 summer reading list, Amy Lyle, and her comedic memoir and summer must-read, The Amy Binegar-Kimmes-Lyle Book of Failures, a book for high-functioning dysfunctionals  who  aspire to channel their  more regrettable moments  into success.

Amy provides a helpful mantra for those of us who might be having a spate of bad days: I am not a failure. I’m just having a little bit of trouble right now, and she makes us feel a little better about ourselves.

“If you have ever failed at love, failed at finances, said to yourself, ‘I really need to get my s*** together,’ been fired, not fit in because you suffer from ‘conditions’ (OCD, IBS, or maybe even a little Tourette’s on the side), this is the book for you,” boasts Amy.

With numerous short stories, detailing Amy’s cringe-worthy experiences, surviving divorce, getting remarried, raising four teenagers in a blended household, and even combatting a case of college crabs.

While Amy talks her “failures,” this book isn’t one of them, as recent reviews from media and book lovers illustrate Book of Failure’s fast-growing appeal, which many dub as authentically human and relatable:

“Delight in Amy Lyle’s 45 years of missteps, inadequacies and faux pas. You may appreciate your own dysfunction a little more as you take a journey through Amy’s debacles…” – Rick Limpert’s Kindle Pick of The Week

“Don’t read while drinking (your coffee, wine, etc., will shoot through your nose from laughing)” – Ivory Owl Reviews

“For all of us who need validation that we don’t suck as bad as we think we do”; “short stories woven of comedy gold”; “she reminds me of a Jenny Lawson and Tina Fey with a little Carol Burnett thrown in” – Amazon reviews

Amy is an author, comedienne, actor and screenwriter who works as a playwright for a large nonprofit in Alpharetta, Ga. Obsessed with fellow female comedians, Amy developed a writing style that is self-deprecating, hilarious and slightly neurotic. She grew up in Marietta, Ohio, in the heart of Appalachia, a place known for a population that is partial to moonshine and prone to acts of violence.
